Niara: Meeting 12/18/15

I started working on prezi presentation for the physical therapy students. I am home for the holidays and return January 4th. Once I get back, I will print more crutch tip variations.

We met with our advisor Amy. Amy suggested that we give the students play-doh to the students. We are going to plan a meeting in January to discuss plans for our presentations. She also advised us to make an IRB for interactions with the therapists and end-user and user compliance.

We plan to add more information for the TAPIA poster that is due January 29th,2016. Reflect more on what we did this semester, add pictures and talk about more deeper planning. We are going to make a GripFab calendar so we can communicate with each other better.

Sam Update:

We have officially scheduled dates for our instructional classes with the physical therapy students.

January 22nd: Niara and I will present a lecture on the use of 3D printing in medicine and how they can incorporate 3D printing into their own future practice. This will be an instructional class to get the students excited about 3D printing.

March 31nd: Physical therapy students will be separated into groups in order to work on case studies for potential users with hand mobility impairments. It will be their job to come up with a design and model for the grip. We are also hoping to present Grip Fab in order to test its usability for the students to use. After the grips are design, Niara and I will print them all at our lab and return them at the next meeting

April 5th:  The students will be given their finalized grips 3D printed. We hope this wrap up will help them see the potential of 3D printing.

Throughout next semester we will be doing significant upgrades to Grip Fab. Much of my focus will be on the software while Niara continues grip designs and customization.

Update: Ninja Flex

We have officially modified our printer to print Ninja Flex. A more flexible material that will significantly better our grip design as we start to produce more prototypes. Please click the image for a link to a video on how the material works.

Niara- Meeting Minutes 12/8/15

Sam showed me the ninjaflex 3D printed grips that she printed this week. We are working separately on our Mid-Year Report right now. Also, we discussed our availability this winter with working on our project. I have to ask Nick to put the ninjaflex calibration on the macbook so that I can print some ninjaflex 3D printed grips that the physical therapists favored on our last visit.

Niara- Meeting Minutes 12/1/15

Sam and I discussed our plans for January. We decided to print a variation of crutch tips for the physical therapists. We plan to bring these tips to them during the Winter so that we may know what their preferences are before we print the set of 20 that they wanted. In addition, we have one of our faculty mentors that provided  us tips on what to include in our presentation with the physical therapy students.
